Day. 14 people, 39 bags of rubbish and one dismembered concrete red indian.
The north entrance area and surrounds and Ryans creek north end all look
great.

Adopt-a-Park grant submission successful
We have received a grant of $5,000 from the Melton Shire Council to pay
for the development of a concept plan and sustainability model for
the Melton Botanic Garden.

Finalist - Keep Australia Beautiful 2nd Annual Sustainable
Cities Awards (26th May). The Friends of the Melton Botanic
Garden were announced as a finalist in the Community Pride Award at
the awards dinner. The award was won by Kingston Council for
the work of the Friends of the Mentone Station. Information at: http://www.kabv.org.au/
Whilst Melton did not win any awards on the evening, Melton projects
were mentioned as finalists in three categories.
A successful workshop run by Rob Small (internationally
renowned environmentalist and botanist) to help shape the design of the
MELTON BOTANIC GARDEN at Town Centre Park was held on Saturday 6th May,
2006 1-5pm at Victoria University Melton Campus.

October Field Trip
On Saturday 8th October we had an enjoyable visit to the Royal
Botanic Gardens Cranbourne

Presentation to Melton Shire Council - A successful and well received
presentation was given by Don Nardella and David Peters. The Council
will further look at the Botanic at the October Council meeting on
Monday 24th October.
July Public Forum
A successful forum on Wednesday 13th at Victoria University Melton Campus
Ian Taylor spoke on indigenous plant species of the western plains, Bram
spoke about the creation and use of wetland environments for improving
our waterways, and Adrian spoke about the council concept plan for the
Town Centre Park.

April Field Trip
On Sunday 17th April 2005 we visited botanic gardens in Gisborne,
Malmsbury,
Kyneton,
Castlemaine
and Daylesford

News 2004:
Our Botanic Gardens Research Project gained information about:
- possible types of botanic garden
- possible sites in Melton for the garden
- how other botanic gardens have been established
- the role of friends groups to support botanic gardens
- the educational use of the garden by schools and groups
- the tourism value of a botanic garden

Schools Visits
We have been visiting Melton primary schools during June-August 2004.
Schools visited Mowbray,St Catherines, Melton.PS, Melton West.PS. Melton
Sth PS., Christian College and Exford PS
All children were given a bag with goodies. The children asked lots of
questions and all seemed very interested
The visiting team really enjoyed going along and presenting. It was wonderful
to see the interest of the children.
